Some summer fun (and learning!)

It is almost the middle of summer and I thought I would give the parents a few “fun” links on the internet for your kids to have fun, but keep up with what they might have learned this last year. Most of these links are for the younger kids, Pre-K to 2nd grade, but there are a few for the older kids.

SuperKids
SuperKids is a great Math web site. You can print up work sheets that are custom made to your desire and child’s skill level. This is a good site for all grades!

Construct a word
Construct a word is a work making game. It can be very easy or very hard. This is a good site for grades 2-5.

The rest of the links will be for grades Pre-K to 2

Letter of the day game
This is a Sesame Street game and is good for beginning letters of words.

StarFall
Star Fall.com is a great site to learn about ABCs and reading.

Fun School
Funschool has a lot of good games on it, but I am linking directly to a math game, it is a racing game, one that little kids should have LOTS of fun trying to beat their parents at!!

Color Me Hungry
Color Me Hungry is another good Sesame Street game for matching colors.

pbskids
PBS Kids.org is a great place to see all of the PBS shows and their web sites!!

sesame_street_logo
This is the Sesame Street Games page. This one is different from the PBS Kids Sesame Street web page.

We hope you enjoy these links. I will be making a grade specific links page soon. If you have any ideas, please click on the Contact The Webmaster link at the bottom of any page of our web site and send the links to me!!
Enjoy your vacation!!

Archdiocese Receives $10 Million Grant

A $10 million grant will provide a "lifeline for many of our FOCUS Catholic Schools".  Sacred Heart School is considered a FOCUS school.  One of the primary goals of FOCUS is to provide direct relief to students and families who qualify for free and reduced lunch.   Under certain conditions, it could provide an additional $1 million annually to help financially stabilize the archdiocese's inner-city Catholic elementary schools.  The amount given to each school will be based on the number of students receiving free/reduced lunch.  So Sacred Heart School's amount will be significantly lower than those schools located directly in the inner city.  We are grateful for this donation to our school.  It will definitely help out families in need of financial aid.

Holy Saturday

holySaturday
Holy Saturday (Sabbato Sancto) is the day after Good Friday. It is the day before Easter and the last day of the Holy week, in which christians prepare for Easter.
On this day one commemorates the time that the dead body of
Jesus Christ is in the grave. His soul however, was in paradise: "Today shalt thou be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43b, KJV).
The apostle Peter describes in 1 Peter 3:19-20a that
Jesus Christ revealed Himself to the spirits in the hell to show His triumph: "By which (referring to His death) also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison.
For more information on Holy Saturday, click on this

Accelerated Reader Enterprise

RLIwebSoftware
We are excited to announce we have upgraded our Accelerated Reader program. The new program is called Accelerated Reader Enterprise. All of our tests and results will be hosted on a new website. With this upgrade we will go from having around 2,000 AR quizzes to having over 100,000 quizzes. New quizzes will be installed as they are created. This upcoming week Mrs. Svien will work with students in the computer lab, they will learn how to use the new Accelerated Reader Enterprise as there are a few changes. Look for updates on what Parents can do with this program soon. You might also have noticed a new link in the sidebar on the left side of the web site, called Accelerated Reader. This is the link the students will use at school to take tests. We believe that all of the previous books the students have taken tests on are already loaded on this new program, so students will not be able to retake tests they already have taken. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Svien.

School Start Time 2008-2009

school bus
Transportation for next year- Thank you for completing the two surveys regarding our school times for next year. The School Advisory Committee met last Friday morning to discuss the results of the last survey sent home. Here are the results: 66 votes (7:20-2:10 p.m.) 36 votes (9:00-3:30 p.m.) We discussed the positives and negatives of both options and the overall issue was the shuttling of students at RMS and the length of time our students would spend on the bus. So, we chose the early time and no morning care. We will look at options for after school activities since we are expecting more students due to the early release time. Remember for the 2009-2010 school year, our school time may change again due to bussing. Please call me with any questions you may have. Pre K times for next year: 3 year olds T/TH 9:00-11:30 a.m. 4/5 year olds M/W/F AM 8:00-10:30 a.m. PM 11:30-2:00 p.m.
