It is almost the middle of summer and I thought I would give the parents a few “fun” links on the internet for your kids to have fun, but keep up with what they might have learned this last year. Most of these links are for the younger kids, Pre-K to 2nd grade, but there are a few for the older kids. ... Funschool has a lot of good games on it, but I am linking directly to a math game, it is a racing game, one that little kids should have LOTS of fun trying to beat their parents at!! ... Tuition 2008-2009

Invoices have been mailed for those families that elected to pay tuition in full. ...SMART mailed July statements on June 25th so you should receive your invoice by July 4th. If you do not receive your invoice by this time, please call us at school 763.537.1329. This first payment includes the $38 fee that SMART collects for handling the account. SMART will send monthly invoices to homes this year vs. coupon books.

Archdiocese Receives $10 Million Grant

A $10 million grant will provide a "lifeline for many of our FOCUS Catholic Schools". ... One of the primary goals of FOCUS is to provide direct relief to students and families who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Under certain conditions, it could provide an additional $1 million annually to help financially stabilize the archdiocese's inner-city Catholic elementary schools. The amount given to each school will be based on the number of students receiving free/reduced lunch. So Sacred Heart School's amount will be significantly lower than those schools located directly in the inner city.

August Registration Packet

Registration is Wednesday, August 27th from 3:00-5:45 p.m. in the gym followed by our back to school picnic, place to be announced, so come back for more information. Boy Scouts

The Boy Scout troop from Sacred Heart have been busy. They purchased a microscope for our school and they will make a presentation to the school on May 21st after Adoration. They boys may wear their Scouts uniform this day. They also helped clean up garbage on the parish/school grounds. Thank you!

The Spring Production is Approaching!

Our "Huckleberry Finn" performance will be presented on Thursday, May 22, at 12:45, to the school and anyone else that would like to attend, and at 6:45 that evening as well. For the evening performance, all students in band and grades 2,4, and 6 should be dressed in "Sunday Best," and the 8th graders should be dressed in their appropriate costumes, 8th graders should arrive at 6:00, band members at 6:15, and the other grades by 6:30. Here's to looking forward to another wonderful musical from the SHS students!

The areas in which the committee has responsibility are planning, policy development, finances, and public relations. This is a three year commitment and we meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Pay it Forward

Remember how the 5th graders received $100 from the Catholic Spirit contest? Well, we wish to thank all of you for helping support our Pay It Forward cause by bringing in change for Uganda families and purchasing bandabead necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. With your effort and sacrifices, we raised $1667.00. ... We are so excited to present this money to Melanie Fagerstrom, a friend of the Ghani family, who will be traveling to Uganda, Africa in May to adopt two children and who will present the money to a missionary who will use the money to buy food and shelter for the children. God bless the Sacred Heart Family for making a difference in the lives of children in Uganda.

School Time for Next Year

The bus company confirmed our school start time for next year. Our school day will run from 7:30-2:00 p.m. Buses will start arriving at school at 7:20 a.m. and leave SHS at 2:05 p.m. Bus routes will be available end of August.

Conferences

Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, April 3, from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Notices were sent home with every child the week before spring break. These conferences are optional and a teacher or parent may request to see a staff member. Please return your slip ASAP. The teachers have a scheduled dinner break 5:00-5:40 pm.

Accelerated Reader Enterprise

With this upgrade we will go from having around 2,000 AR quizzes to having over 100,000 quizzes. ... Svien will work with students in the computer lab, they will learn how to use the new Accelerated Reader Enterprise as there are a few changes. ... You might also have noticed a new link in the sidebar on the left side of the web site, called Accelerated Reader. This is the link the students will use at school to take tests. We believe that all of the previous books the students have taken tests on are already loaded on this new program, so students will not be able to retake tests they already have taken.

When students are absent due to illness, please call the school office by 9:00 a.m. to let us know if you would like to pick up homework at the end of the day. Ill students will not be allowed in the building to pick up their homework if they are too sick to come to school. The parents or sibling must pick up the homework.

Family Dance/Silent Auction-Feb. 23

Our family dance/silent auction is right around the corner following the 5:00 p.m. mass. ... The family dance is always a fun way to spend a Saturday night and we will also have "Message in a Bottle". ... This is also a way for parents to get to know each other while children enjoy a night out with fellow classmates. The adult and children silent auction will be taking place in the Marian rooms. ... Butter Braid fundraiser

The 5th through 8th graders will be selling pastries called Butterbraids to help offset the cost of the Annual Junior Achievement Biz Town. The Butterbraids make a great morning treat, especially during the Holidays, and are easy to make-they come frozen, so all you need to do is let them unthaw and bake! The Butterbraids will be sold starting February 12th through Feb. 26th and will arrive the week before Easter break. The cost for each Butterbraid willl be $8.00. Look for more info. to come home on February 12th or order your Butterbraids from the school office anytime between Feb. 12th through the 26th.

Paying Forward

Ernste and the 5th graders entered a contest through the Catholic Spirit called "Pay It Forward". The newspaper selected groups to receive $100 to "grow" during Lent to help as many people as possible. They received 131 suggestions from teachers, children, and adults for a variety of projects. Our 5th graders were selected to buy Bandabead bracelets and necklaces from Uganda, which they would see to raise money to help the women and children in Uganda. Along with selling Bandabead necklaces and bracelets, they will spend time as a class making other bracelets, necklaces, and small crafty items with their own supplies to sell.

Wow, it might not seem like a lot, but our web page had over 100 visitors yesterday. Since we have started keeping count, our daily average is around 23, although, we have had a large number the last few weeks, and this number also accounts for Summer, when our numbers are very low. We also had our biggest week ever last week when we had over 400 people in one week! Keep coming back to the web site for more news, photos and maybe even artwork from the kids! Thanks!

Open House Coming Up!!

We are having an Open House coming up, Sunday, January 27th. It starts at 10:00 a.m. with Mass in the Church. Classrooms will open after mass, so you can take a tour of the school. We will be having coffee and doughnuts too for a little snack! Don't forget the Book Fair which helps raise money and books for the school Library!!

Christmas Concert

The concert/play is Thursday, Dec. 13th at 6:45 p.m. Grade 7 should be here at 5:45 p.m. and K, 1, 3, 5 here by 6:30 p.m. The students are meeting in the following locations- Gr. K-1 Marian rooms Gr. ... 5 Computer Lab The students will watch the show at dress rehearsal that day so they will remain with their teacher during the program.

We have encountered a bug where we have lost all of our teacher pages, I am looking at how this happened, but when I went to look at some today after 3:30, there was no information stored in our data file. I am not sure how or why, but they are gone. ... And I as the webmaster must apologize to the staff, teachers, students and parents for not having any back-up of this information. Trust me, I will be backing up from now on. If you don't do back ups at home, maybe this can be a lesson for you to start.

Concession Stand

Ekegren distributed the concession stand sign up schedule to all players on Nov. 1st. Please sign up for 2 games to help out. Uniforms will not be distributed until your volunteer slip is turned in. Thanks for your help. Proceeds help purchase new uniforms.

52 Club

Continue selling your 52 club tickets. More tickets are avialable int he school office. Your fundraising commitment is $200 per child and only two fundraisers qualify for this-marathon and 52 club. Any unsold tickets must be returned. All tickets due Dec. 20th.

The Weekenders for October 17th and November 1st are now on the Weekender page. We also have a new area under the Weekender area called Weekender Archive. Here is where we will store all of our Weekenders which are over 1 month old, so you can find the Weekenders for September on this page, and once November ends, you will be able to find October's Weekenders there. When the year is over, all of the Weekenders for the year will be stored on the Archive page until the beginning of next year. Marathon Update!

We currently have raised Total $31,939.00 but we are hopeful on reaching our goal. ... Creagan led us in prayer, the rain stopped and we were off and running. ...Thank you to all families for participating in a great marathon ...Harty's 2nd grade, receive a $200 field trip (to be determined later) ...Thanks to all of the students, staff, parents and volunteers for making this year's Marathon a success!

Middle School Mathletes!!

If you enjoy math and would like to do more than just the daily assignments and also like to take on a challenge.... then this is the thing for you! Mathletes meet Fridays after school until 4:00. We will be participating in the MATHCOUNTS program again this year and hope to attend competition in February.
