It's Not Easy Being Green!

Photo

In an attempt to be more "green," I will no longer be sending home a paper copy of our Week In Review and Weekly Newsletters.  Please continue to check this website for important information.

Prince Caspian.  The 4th Graders have begun reading the epic "sequel" to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  We will be reading about a chapter a day with Read Aloud, Choral Reading, Independent Reading, and Listening to an Audiobook.  Students will be completing discussion packets and activities throughout the story.  We hope to use this text to explore development of plot and characters throughout fantasy novels such as the Chronicles of Narnia.

Enjoy the book and then see the movie!

Important Reminders

Cursive Practice

Cursive Practice will no longer be homework.  We will be having daily practice in class.  I'm hoping that more regular practice will improve our handwriting.

US Regions Project

To complement our individual state reports, we will be working, in class, on short "Region Presentations."  Each group of 5/6 will be responsible for 'teaching' their classmates about the West, South, and Midwest regions of the US (we did the Northeast as a class).  Presentations will consist of the following: 1. Presentation of Settlement History (Overhead Presentation); 2. Region Poster (States in the Region); 3. Tourism Poster (Why Should People Visit Your Region); 4. Short Quiz for Classmates.

State Report Information

4th Grade Families,

I will be using this portion of the website to keep you appraised of developments, clarifications, and notices concerning State Reports.  This is my first time doing a large project so I'm sure that will be some kinks that I need to work out.  Once again, feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.

IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE!!

Final Typed Reports will be due on Monday, May 26th.  I hoping that this will give all of the 4th graders plenty of time to type reports.  If you have any concerns or questions, please let me know.  I have recently realized that this date is actually Memorial Day, but the Final Typed Reports will need to be handed in on Tuesday, May 27th.  Sorry again for any confusion.

Bibliography

Students should have brought home a form for recording important bibliographic information.  Please help your child fill out important information for both written and online resources (you do not need all of the information on the worksheet).  Bibliographic information needs to be at school by May 19th.  I'm going to be somewhat flexible with this part of the project because it may be hard to find and record all of the information.  We will be writing the actual bibliographies in class.  Please let me know if you need recording forms.

Important Information

I made a mistake in the State Report Packets.  I listed 2 dates for the beginning of Tri-Board work (May 19th and May 23rd).  We will be working on the Tri-Boards beginning on Monday, May 19th.  Please try and get all of your necessary materials (i.e. maps and photos) to school by the 19th.  If you are unable to get them here by Monday, please try to get them here A.S.A.P.

Map Information

I told the 4th graders that they do not need to include maps in their Final Typed Reports, and they do not need to "hand-draw" a map (Roman Numeral VIII can be crossed off of the Report Outline).

The only map that is needed is either a hand-drawn, or, printed map for display on the Tri-Board.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
