Mrs. Tempel's Third Grade
Third Grade Announcements May 12-16
Reading:
We have completed our Learnia reading tests and will be reading another problem solving story from our basal reader. I was happy to see that everyone improved their reading scores when their scores were compared to the Learnia tests given in the fall. PLEASE keep reading these last few weeks as well as all summer. I will be sending home a list of popular books that I hope will help you select books that your child will enjoy reading for fun. This list will be in your child's last report card.
English:
Personal pronouns will be studied this week, as well as compound sentences. All writing (except for some poetry and practice book pages) should be done in cursive.
Math:
Multiplication facts are being practiced as well as division facts. We will continue to test on our 6 multiplication facts this week. We are also working on more problem solving, and learning more about geometric figures. We have begun to multiply 3 digit numbers by a 1 digit number. Please continue to check your child's math guided practice. Learnia Math Tests will be taken this week on Monday and Wednesday mornings. Again, please try to have your child well rested, and with a good breakfast and snack on these days.
Science:
The third grade shined on their space test! Everyone did very well and showed how much they learned from their classmate's reports by doing well on an extra credit page that included facts from these reports.
Social Studies:
We are starting a unit on government this week. It will include city, county, state and national governments. It should help give them some background information for our next big election!
Religion:
We are continuing our respect unit. We have "police detectives" looking for people who are polite, fair to all, and helpful to others. So far we have found many classmates and schoolmates who fit into these categories.
