I believe children learn best when they are taught in an environment that is filled with faith, love, kindness and feel inspired to learn new skills each day! I love being a teacher and knowing I can make a difference each day!

SHCS has given me the opportunity to grow in my Catholic faith and share what I have learned with others. I love to welcome the new and returning families to Kindergarten. Kindergarten is the greatest! It is the place where children share and learn through guided discovery. I am an alumnus of SHCS and have fond memories of Catholic Schools Week. The week is filled with many faith-centered activities. We still have service projects, the spelling bee, field trips, and book fair. It is wonderful to be a part of the SHCS community!

I believe in teaching and celebrating the whole child - academically, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I strive to keep my classroom filled with laughter and positive thinking. I feel it is truly important to have fun while learning, to always try your best and to act in the image and likeness of God.
I believe that teaching is a partnership between parents, students, and teachers. With parents being the primary educators of their children, it is my goal to assist parents in any way that I can to maximize their child's educational experience. I encourage parents to come to school, and participate in their child's education. Through volunteering experiences within the school, the classroom, and extracurricular activities, parents are showing their child the value that they place on their education. Working together and forming this partnership enhances the child's growth.
I firmly believe in the value and benefit of a Catholic based education. Through the development of each child's spirituality, they grow to know and love God in a deeper way. The child, through scripture, prayer and social justice, learn to become people of God, exhibiting moral responsibility and strong Catholic values.

My teaching philosophy is that building a sense of community and creating a positive classroom environment will allow students to reach their highest potential. I believe communication between myself and parents is important because we can work together as a team to determine how their child can be successful in the classroom. It is very important for me to create positive relationships with my students. I enjoy getting to know my students as individuals and create lesson plans to fit their needs. In creating quality relationships with students and their parents, our classroom becomes a positive place where they enjoy coming to on a daily basis. I believe that in order for children to reach their highest potential, they need to be challenged. As I learn more about my students, I can determine when and how to challenge them to produce their best work on a daily basis.

For myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as a teacher is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. For a teacher, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a child grow throughout the year emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.

I have been teaching at Sacred Heart School for over 16 years. One reason I love teaching here is that it reminds me so much of the small town where I grew up. Everybody seems to know and care about everyone! My goal is to provide a very loving, safe, and as exciting environment as I can manage so that all of my students can grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. I am always humbled by observing the wonderful and impressive thought processes that I see as my students learn. I feel I learn so much from my students, and enjoy letting them help teach others by encouraging them to question often and share their thinking. Working closely together with our parents and school staff, I aim for all students to develop a deep love and respect of God, themselves, others, the environment, and a continual love of learning.

I am starting my 4th year teaching Fourth Grade here at Sacred Heart. I have always had a strong desire to work in Catholic Education and I have really enjoyed my experience here at SHCS. Education to me is all about a journey. Whether I'm a teacher or a student, I believe that the process
of education is a process that should help us to become the people that God wants us to be. In my classroom, I believe in creating a classroom community in which both students and teachers can live and love as Christians. I work to accomplish this goal through activities, lessons, and discussions that help us develop our social/emotional skills along side our academic learning. My classroom curriculum is based on national standards and school mission as well as the interests of both myself and the students. In helping others become the people that God wants them to be, I work to help youth become engaged, independent, and lifelong learners. I have been thankful for all the years that God has allowed me to be a teacher and every year I look forward to growing along side the children in my class.

I have been teaching 5th grade at SHCS for 4 years. This year will be my 15th year teaching. I have always enjoyed working with children and try hard to get to know each student to better understand each one. God has given each child special talents and I feel it is my job to help highlight these gifts and talents in each child as well as challenge them to grow spiritually, academically, and socially. I also encourage group work, character development, and the gift of laughter! Together-- teacher, families, and students--we work together to promote a successful 5th grade year.

I am excited to meet all of the families at Sacred Heart. I have been teaching for 12 years, with 11 of those years in fourth grade. Fourth grade is a transition year with many new concepts to learn like long division and the states and capitals. We will have a lot of fun together while learning at the same time. I am anxious to meet all of you and get started on our adventure! Take care, enjoy the rest of summer, and I will see you soon.

I am the Middle School Religion and Social Studies teacher. This is my 16th year at Sacred Heart, and I truly feel blessed to be teaching here. I love the excitement and enthusiasm of the middle school students and especially those "light bulb" moments. I strive to connect what I am teaching to their lives---to show them the purpose of learning. It is especially rewarding when a college-age student returns to visit and tells me he/she is studying to be a social studies teacher. (I can't help but take a little credit for that.)

I am excited to have the opportunity to teach the middle school students at Sacred Heart about the many details in this world that God has created for us! I come from a family of teachers and have always had a love for learning. I hope to pass that on to your children! This year the students will often learn the various science concepts through exploration and investigation. I believe in a hands on approach to teaching science and a positive classroom environment will help to facilitate this as we work together throughout the year.

I currently teach English and Literature to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. I have been a teacher for 23 years and have spent the last 15 at Sacred Heart. I love to read and write and strive to pass that on to the middle schoolers. My philosophy of education is to take students where they are at and take them as far as they can go. I have high expectations that we all try to meet in our classroom. I’m excited about the new technology and working with 21st century learners.

I currently teach mathematics to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I believe that middle school students have a wide range of abilities, but need to be guided through the changes they are experiencing. As their teacher, I dedicate myself to being a good role model in Christ and an advocate for each one of them. My philosophy about learning is that it needs relate to their lives, be fun, and occur in a safe atmosphere. I try to teach essential skills like problem solving, responsibility, and a love of learning in my math classroom.

Jeanne Ekegren
K-8 Physical Education Instructor, grades 6-8 Health Education Instructor, Middle School Athletic Director.
I began my career at Sacred Heart Catholic School teaching physical education in a part-time position. After several years, my position was increased to full-time with the addition of health education-type classes. Since I began working here 27 years ago, I have many interesting and favorite memories. Favorite memories bring to mind the
Annual Talent Show where our staff dressed as a favorite Roman Catholic sister. With Mr. Melius as the Priest, we sang a song from “Sister Act.” for our students. The moments that I enjoy most are recalling friendships with former students who are now the parents of students enrolled at Sacred Heart. A great amount of trust and belief is demonstrated by enrolling your child in your alma mater.
I believe that it is important to teach students lessons that he/she can use now and in the future. Health lessons discussing the chronic illness may seem boring; games and activities may not look like learning. Exercising and moving around are important habits to develop for maintaining your gift from God, a body healthy physically as well as mentally and spiritually.

This is my 10th year here at Sacred Heart. Some of my favorite memories include Catholic Schools Week activities, marathon, book fair, and the exciting first few days of school. As the librarian at school I get to work with every student from the youngest three year olds up to the eighth graders. My goal is to help provide resources to enhance their learning. I take great joy in watching the students light up in excitement over a great book. I look forward to another fun school year.

This will be my 14th school year at Sacred Heart. I was hired as a long-term sub in the 1997-98 school year and I'm still here! I teach K-8 music, private lessons, and I am a middle school homeroom teacher. I do two major musicals each year, which are both the hardest part of my job as well as the most rewarding and fun. Seeing the kids shine on stage in their acting and singing makes this music teacher so proud. I love to see former students, even years later, tell me now much fun they had putting the musicals together. The staff is so great to work with, and some of our acts at the talent shows over the years are some of my favorite memories as well! I love teaching the wonder of music to the students at Sacred Heart!

I am a native of Spain and I will begin my fourth year of teaching Spanish at Sacred Heart School this year. Once again, I look forward to meeting new students and seeing returning ones. Because I teach every grade level, I love seeing each student’s progression and maturing throughout their schooling. I think that the learning of a foreign language includes conceptual and practical aspects, which we will use in the classroom at the various grade levels. I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and is ready for a new challenging school year!

This will be my 11th year at SHCS. I started teaching here while our 4 children were students at SHCS. It has been a rewarding experience for our family. I enjoy teaching Art to grades K – 8.
I have observed student’s growth and development in the creative process in art through the years. Not only do they use their God given talents to create but learn about other past and present artists and achievements.
